PALM SPRINGS TO DOS

Getting away this past week was so essential for our mental health. We lucked out having a gap in our schedule. If you plan to travel to Palm Springs, here are some recommendations!

RELAX + RECOVER FROM NURSING (SCHOOL) BURNOUT

This was the top of our list!!! We took full advantage of the sun, our pool and our down time to just laze around and relax. We normally enjoy hiking, shopping + going to Disneyland (only 2 hour drive!!) while in Palm Springs, however the school burnout was real for us! We thought we would take full advantage of this week to recover + prepare for our final practicum coming up in early January! We also read this non nursing textbook book...finally some time to read something of our choice!! When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi is an AMAZING book. We highly recommend this autobiography to all health care professionals. The pages seemed to turn themselves - be ready for some tears! We were fortunate to receive this book from Rei (follow her instagram here). She passed this book on as a "sisterhood of the travelling book" kind of style. It's such a unique + fun idea - we can't wait to see where this book travels to!

TAKE A TRIP TO SHERMAN'S

Sherman's is the perfect spot for breakfast, brunch + lunch! While we were here, we tried the turkey bacon sandwich. It was so good + big (one was enough to share!). We got ours to go to enjoy by the pool - the patio was packed and there was quite a wait. If you have a sweet tooth or craving, they also have an amazing selection of deserts (the carrot cake + cheesecake was SO good!).

Location: 401 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way

GET THOSE WING PICTURES

Okay, Sydney has always wanted one of these wings! They're so colourful and we always see them popped up all around LA. When we heard these were newly painted in downtown Palm Springs, we checked them out. The artist did a beautiful job!

Location: 100 W. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Go along the side of the hotel in the alley!

TOUR THE THOUSAND PALMS

This place is so beautiful + feels very remote. It was amazing to stumble across this to find a water oasis with fish! It also has bridges and cool walkways to explore! Follow the trail called the McCallum pond to get to the water - we are so glad that we did! This is located along the san andres fault, which was pretty neat as you can see some gaps in the plates.

Location: 29200 Thousand Palms

AND GET THOSE DOOR PICTURES...

I'm sure you have heard that there are a TON of bright neon doors to snap some photos of! We came across so many! We highly recommend walking around the neighbourhood you are staying in to go on a door tour! We wish bright pink, blue, orange + yellow doors were a thing here in Canada - maybe we will bring the trend back here!

Location: ALL over Palm Springs! We actually rented a house off of ACME. The company was great, with excellent hospitality!

TAKE A TRIP TO THE HOTEL CALIFORNIA

We loved visiting this beautiful hotel! Not only did it match our Jaanuu scrubs, but it also happened to be coloured our absolute fave colour - PINK! Just beside the hotel there is also a cute seafoam blue door. We were quite upset when we heard that "that pink door" was no longer welcomed for tourists to go see. When we went to visit this pink hotel, we were quite pleased to stumble across this beauty!

Location: 424 E. Palm Canyon Drive

CHECK OUT THE ART MUSEUM

This art museum had a lot of cool different pieces to check out! It is a nice way to take a break from the heat! A bonus is that it's free on Thursdays from 4 - 8 pm! We decided to check out the museum + the Thursday night street market all in one evening! The night market was awesome with yummy food trucks + unique gifts you can buy to take home.

Location: 101 Museum Drive
